The former covered market of Pietrasanta, being in itself a remarkable architectural structure designed in the 1960s by Architect Tito Salvatori, is the place chosen to host the Mitoraj Museum.

The object of an extremely great work of architectural enhancement, the building is well suited to the need for hosting the artist’s collections in a large and airy space, capable of generating new interactions with the cultural ecosystem of the city itself, so loved by Mitoraj since he decided in the early 1980s to establish there his atelier.

Critics have acknowledged to Igor Mitoraj the merit of having brought back figurativism to the centre of sculpture in the artistic scenario, through a new interpretation of the classics, bringing together myth and mystery, order and innovation, dream and reason.

Through his exhibitions, Mitoraj succeeds in opening to contemporary art places historically closed to it, effectively becoming one of the most widely appreciated artists on the international stage, with a success that has never weakened even after his death, which took place in Paris on 6 October 2014.
